Priority trials for MPs

The Justice Ministry will submit a proviso to Parliament connected Friday aimed astatine giving implicit precedence to tribunal cases involving governmental figures, including lawmakers linked to the OPEKEPE workplace subsidy investigation.

The amendment, introduced by Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis, will person retroactive effect and shorten procedural deadlines for misdemeanors and felonies. 

Under the proposal, misdemeanor cases would spell straight to trial aft prosecution and beryllium scheduled within three months.

Felony investigations would travel Article 28 of the Criminal Procedure Code, beryllium assigned to an appellate investigating justice and reason within 4 months, followed by an irrevocable judicial assembly ruling and a trial day within three months.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the inaugural successful Parliament successful April and Floridis aboriginal presented it to European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kovesi during her visit to Greece.

The connection follows the OPEKEPE lawsuit and the investigated engagement of New Democracy lawmakers. The ministry said the regularisation restores elements of a model established under earlier legislation.
